I Luv Strugglin’s Texans survive Berko’s comeback in Week 9 Game of the Week

October 2, 2026

Berko nearly turned a disastrous start into a memorable comeback. But I Luv Strugglin had the answers when Houston needed them most.

The Texans raced to a 21–0 first-quarter lead, watched the Chargers fight back within five points, and delivered two crucial fourth-quarter touchdowns to secure a 51–39 victory in Madden Underground’s Week 9 Game of the Week.

With Snipes and Brian James calling the action, the matchup became a test of Houston’s ability to protect its lead against a Chargers offense that refused to disappear.

Trey McBride set the tone early. Houston’s tight end caught the opening touchdown and repeatedly found space for C.J. Stroud, helping the Texans establish control. A Chargers fumble and a failed fourth-down attempt gave Houston additional opportunities, and Mike Washington Jr. punched in a rushing touchdown to complete the Texans’ 21-point opening quarter.

Berko entered the game at 6–1, and his offense eventually showed why. Justin Herbert found Brenen Thompson for a touchdown early in the second quarter, followed by a successful two-point conversion. Houston answered with another Washington rushing score, but the Chargers kept attacking downfield.

Los Angeles added another touchdown before halftime. Still, a red-zone interception by Reed Blankenship prevented Berko from cutting further into the deficit, and Houston carried a 31–14 lead into the break.

The second half changed the game’s direction. Los Angeles began producing defensive takeaways, giving Herbert opportunities to bring the Chargers back. Thompson supplied another explosive touchdown, and Berko’s offense continued to turn those chances into points.

By the start of the fourth quarter, Houston’s lead had shrunk to 38–30. Berko then chose a field goal on fourth down, bringing Los Angeles within 38–33. After trailing by three touchdowns, the Chargers were one defensive stop away from a possession that could put them ahead.

Strugglin responded by returning to Washington and the ground game. Houston moved the chains, consumed time, and finished the drive with a touchdown pass to Washington, restoring a 12-point advantage.

Berko answered again. A fourth-down completion to Quentin Johnston kept the Chargers alive, and Herbert followed with another touchdown strike to Thompson. The two-point attempt failed, leaving Los Angeles down six with just over two minutes remaining.

That was when McBride reappeared with the decisive play. On second-and-nine, Stroud found his tight end for a long touchdown, extending Houston’s lead to 51–39. Calen Bullock then collected his second interception of the game to stop the Chargers’ next scoring threat.

Houston’s fast start mattered, but its response to the comeback ultimately decided the result. Washington supplied the rushing production and a critical receiving touchdown, McBride delivered at both ends of the game, and the Texans’ secondary made timely plays.

For Berko, the loss came with a strong second-half response. He kept the Chargers competitive after a 21–0 start and forced Houston to earn the finish. For Strugglin, the victory was a reminder of the experience he brings to Madden Underground—a history Brian James highlighted after the game when discussing his place among the community’s earliest elite competitors.

Week 9 belonged to Houston, but the Chargers made the Texans work for every bit of it.
