One of the most dominant Madden players of all time may be calling it quits. On Wednesday, June 30th, Zach Lane (also known as Serious Moe) posted a jaw dropping message that left the Madden community in shock. The 26-year-old Lane posted that his “Competitive Madden Career is over” in a Facebook post. Lane’s Facebook message stated the following:
“Just a little update on my life because I never provide one! As many of you know, I’ve been playing in Madden tournaments for a living basically for the last 10 years. Well, I’ve decided it’s time for me to move on and I’m going to be retiring. Unfortunately, I will not be retiring from work just competing on video games is over. I’ve had a great career, viewed in a lot of people’s eyes as a top 3 Person to EVER play the game… I was the best at something for a long time, and it’s something I’m proud of. I know a lot of people never understood it, and I’m not someone who cares to explain it to you, you handle your business and i handle mine. Some people think I’m a millionaire, and some people think I’m a 15-year-old who sits in his mom’s basement playing the game, and I’m somewhere in between (ha-ha). I have met my best friends through this game, and “internet”. I’ve met some of the worst most grimy people in the world through this game, it’s a part of life, no matter what you do you will find amazing and some shitty people. I will for sure remember the good, I have traveled more in my 26 years of life than 99% of people get to travel their whole life. With all that being said, I have a pretty good job opportunity in Florida, and I will be moving there at the end of August. Thank you for everyone’s support over the years, I’m not someone who remembers faces, names, but i definitely remember those that supported me, and genuinely thank you for that. Onto the next chapter….”
Definitely hate to see a player skilled as Serious Moe leave the competitive scene, but in the encrypted message above he said, “he would not be retiring from work” (hmm….). Being that he has a “Good Job Opportunity in Florida” could mean many things, but we are just going to say do not be surprised if that job in Florida is one with EA Sports. It would not be the least bit shocking, but certainly well deserved. Congrats to Zach Lane, and we wish you nothing but the best in all future endeavors. – Madden Underground
